"Leargas" More Power to your Elbow (Uilleann Pipes)

Here is a fascinating documentary, divided into two parts, on YouTube, on some history of the uilleann ("ill'-en") pipes. Many famous players and makers are featured. Many parts of it are in the Irish language, which is fascinating in itself for non-speakers, with subtitles in English. It is really well worth a view.

Many thanks to YouTube user fergmaun, whoever he or she may be, for posting this gem!

Over the years he has shared the stage with The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, Paddy Reilly, Alisdair Fraser and The Battlefield Band to name but a few. Gerry will be joined in this concert by some of Glengarry’s finest including Denis Carr, Paddy Kelly, Ashley MacLeod, Kelsey McDonell and Paddy Maher - a talented musical combination worthy of Carnegie Hall.

This event is part of the Maxville MusicFest. This grass-roots community festival will be hosting its fourth edition May 11th – 13th, and with each successive year, interest in the festival continues to grow due to its diverse professional concert series, hosted in each of the four historic village churches. June Art Fundraiser for the North American Gaeltacht

Artists, who engage in any of the visual and sculptural arts, are participating in an art exhibition sale and fund-raising event, with proceeds to go to the Permanent North American Gaeltacht, or Irish language speaking area, which is located in Tamworth/Erinsville near Kingston. Submissions reflect the theme "Our Roots" and are examined by a jury. As this is a fund-raising event, artists are being asked to contribute a percentage of the sales.

This fund-raising exhibition will be held at Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts from June 21 – 24, 2012. More details to come.

Volunteers are needed to help run the exhibition. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Toni Forsythe: 613-233-9927 or toni144 at gmail.com
