A concert with Panache! 29 July 2014

The Old Sod Folk Music Society is hosting a concert with Panache on July 29th.

Panache is a fiddle super-group made up of four powerful female fiddlers:
Cape Breton fiddler, Andrea Beaton
Franco-Americaine fiddler, Donna Hebert
Southern style fiddler, Jane Rothfield
Quebecois fiddler, Veronique Plasse

What to expect from a Panache concert????

Lively reels, dancing jigs, soulful waltzes and airs, great playing and great singing! Listening to Panache is like watching art being made at the moment of inspiration. These ladies spark off of one another, with arrangements, counter melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and musical improvisation-the result is something NEW and EXCITING and FUN!!

Almonte Celtfest 4-6 July 2014

Don't forget, the Almonte Celtfest is THIS WEEKEND!

All the details for this family friendly, and extremely affordable (pay what you can) celebration of Irish music and culture in the Ottawa Valley style, are available at the Almonte Celtfest website.

Besides the superb, live, on-stage entertainment, there are also music sessions and performances in the local pubs, instrument workshops in fiddle, bodhran ("borr-ann"), tin whistle (including an uilleann pipe demonstration), by extremely talented local musicians, and the O'Connell Session Tent where you can bring your own instrument along to the Park and join in the jam (which is an informal jam, all are welcome). (The session tent, I recall, is usually down by the stage, on your right as you look at the stage.)

And this year the Fest is going more green (appropriate, no?). See their latest green initiative here.

Schedule day by day here.
